For about a week my car smelled funny.  I kept saying it was smelling like windshield washer fluid.  It turned out to be the rear defrost, something in the button was burning out.  It sparked one day and now all I can smell is like a burnt wire.  There was nothing to clean up, but the smell is still in the car.

How do we get rid of this smell?

Oh no!  That really sounds smelly.  Do you live where you can air out the vehicle every night?  Have you tried one of those crystals that are supposed to suck up the bad smells?  If there is nothing to clean I'm not sure what to tell you.
