Detailing your engine is part of a good car maintenance routine. Dirt and grime build-up mixed with the heat generated by the engine can cause a car’s engine components to deteriorate which can lead to costly repairs. Experts recommend detailing your car’s engine every two months.
It’s recommend that you detail your car engine at self service car wash because they
reclaim the waste water which will have oil and grease from the engine.
Step 1
Remove any loose debris.
Step 2
Cover any computer or electronic components with plastic bags. Most computer and electronic components are in casings that are water resistant. Covering them just gives them more protection. Make sure you cover the distributor with a towel or plastic bag.
Step 3
Wet the engine. If the water pressure is too high, water may penetrate into the engine and cause costly repairs so be careful.
Step 4
Spray an engine degreaser on the engine. A good degreaser is simple green. Allow the engine degreaser to soak on the engine according to manufacturer directions. Be sure to immediately wipe off any engine degreaser that comes in contact with any painted surface.
Step 5
Brush any noticeably dirty areas using a brush. Walmart sells very good detailing brushes for a few dollars. Use gentle sweeping motions. Vigorous scrubbing may cause damage.
Step 6
Rinse the engine. Be sure to completely rinse off the engine degreaser.
Step 7
Spray on any water based dressing. Stoners Trimshine is aa very good dressing that is water based and can be found at Walmart, Schucks, Autozone etc.. Follow this up by drying any remaining wet areas using a lint free towel.
Don’t forget to remove the plastic or towels you used !
